What Is Elizabeth Ministry? Elizabeth Ministry is an outreach to women in special times of motherhood. It follows the example of the Scripture story of the Visitation by bringing together women who share a similar story. Why Is It Needed? Due to changes in society, women today dont always have the support systems that were available to previous generations. The wisdom of sharing stories about the joys and trials of conception, birth and parenting is still needed. The search to fill this need has resulted in Elizabeth Ministry. Elizabeth Ministers are not counselors or experts, they are women who are willing to share their stories and experience in the hope that this will support, encourage, console and at times bring healing to other women. Elizabeth Ministry Enables Our Parish To:
How Does It Work? Each woman who requests a visit is matched with an Elizabeth Minister who has gone through a similar life experience. The Elizabeth Minister presents the person she is visiting a special Gift and Resource Kit as a symbol of our parish concern and support. These visits may take place in homes, at the hospital or in the parish. Follow-up contacts are made in person, by phone or by mail. This outreach fosters a companionship based on personal experience, formal knowledge, the acquired skills of the participants and the mutual love of God.
How to Become an Elizabeth Minister Ministers participate in an orientation session to become acquainted with materials and specifics of the program. A spirit of caring and compassion and a love for people are God-given gifts you will use in this ministry.
